30 Years in the Industry, Focused on Providing High-Quality Tin Can Bottom Ends for Global Paint Brands

There is a factory in Foshan, Guangdong, China. Not a huge operation, but a steady one. For 30 years, we have never changed our primary focus. We do one thing: make the best Tin Can Bottom Ends in the business.

Some people might think a metal lid nothing special. Those who know our business understand that in tin can assembly, the bottom end is one of the most important components. Whether paint stays fresh long-term, whether cans leak during shipping, how smoothly they are pried open — a lot depends on this small but vital part.

We are a Chinese factory through and through. We commenced in 1990’s, earning business from small local paint workshops. After we landed export orders, we started partnerships with international brands. Step by step, we grew by word of mouth and consistent quality.

On to materials. Our tin can bottom ends are made from high-quality electrolytic tinplate — uniform thickness, clean surface. That is the bare minimum. But we go much further. Depending on the type of paint, we recommend different tin coating weights and surface treatments. Water based paints and oil based paints obviously have different requirements, the former needing solvent resistance, the latter demanding powerful anti-corrosion performance.These are what we learned after thirty years of practice.

Now for the manufacturing. Everything from blanking and drawing to curling and compound application must all be tightly within specific parameters. We take special care to achieve consistency in curling and compound adhesion because these two metrics most directly govern sealing quality. A burr on the curl or an uneven application of compound could lead to air leaking in or paint leaking out at the customer’s end, and that’s why we make samples of everything and run air tightness tests, salt spray tests, drop tests, etc.

On the equipment side, we’ve invested in several automatic stamping lines and intelligent inspection systems in the last couple years. Not just because it’s fashionable to, either. Because customers are starting to run fully automated filling lines at their paint factories and if sometimes the bottom end is oversize or undersize, well, the machine jams or skips! That’s why we control dimensional tolerance rather tightly - to ±0.1 mm and jams are very infrequent now.

In the earlier days we only worked with small and medium sized paint manufacturers in China. In time we branched out into Southeast Asia and then the Middle East, South America and then Europe, and today we’re doing business with some 300 brands of paint all over the world and many of them are market leaders in their respective regions. They come to us not because we are the cheapest but because we are consistently the same - from one batch to ten thousand batches.

The most obvious change in our industry over the years is the growing emphasis on environmental protection. Previously the buyers only asked how much lead time before it’d be delivered and then how cheap can you offer; nowadays many of them ask - “Do your bottom ends recycle? Do you do anything to control water emissions? Is there any lead in that coating? We’ve been expecting this trend and have some of the proper answers. All scrap metal is recycled. 

The requests for customization is also becoming more common, for example some customers want the logo embossed on the bottom end, and some want a different curl from others to match their sealing machinery. Some even want a special kind of inner coating to not react to certain ingredients of paint, etc, We do all that of course as well. Normally, one week of lead time for samples, three to four weeks for mass production.
